Corsair Dominator PLATINUM 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-15000C9 1866MHz Dual Channel Kit with DHX Pro Connector (CMD16GX3M2A1866C9) [CMD16GX3M2A1866C9]

I also would like to upgrade eventually to 32 gb....can i purchase another of this set and whack it straight in with out any problems ? (even tho it states its a "Dual Channel Kit" )

Or have to find another quad kit at the same Mhz ? ( i need 1866 as its the max my MB supports)

Its compatible.

The only thing is if you have an aftermarket heatsink then the tall height of the RAM may present a fitment issue.

Also you have a suitable 64bit OS?

i maybe wrong, i normally am, but 2 pairs of dual channel wont be as quick as quad channel ram, but buy 2 sticks now and get 2 sticks later will still work, just not as fast as 4 quad channel ram

I have a 64 bit OS yer,...Could you suggest any other ram that may be suitable ? If i went down water calling route...this would solve the height issue right ?

RAM is RAM mate.

It doesn't matter if you use three sticks from a quad channel kit for use in a socket1366 system (tri-channel) or two dual channel kits to make up a quad channel kit.

Ive heard you can run into problems too, that's why i thought id ask here before u brought them. Any suggestions on alternatives?

Yes, adding in another kit will be fine. Dual channel kit just means there's two modules, but it's the memory controller that determines what channel the RAM modules runs in. The Z77 board supports up to dual channel so it will run 4 modules in dual channel.

The board supports 1866mhz but the memory controller is in the CPU, which for Ivybridge the fastest supported is 1600mhz. Anything over that counts as overclocking, but the memory controller should be fine with the 1866mhz speeds. Honestly though depending on what you're doing, there's hardly any performance difference between 1600mhz and 1866mhz. Might as well get the 1600mhz version instead and save yourself the money for other areas of the PC.
