Following a recent instalment of a new router (linksys AG241) I discovered that we were not getting incoming phone call rings.
Both the internet and the telephone line are active, you can dial out with the telephone and if you ring the land line with a mobile and pick it up there is a connection. But the land line does not 'ring' to let you know someone is calling. The phone has the ring turned on etc and everything is as it should seem to be.

I'm using the micro filter that came with the router (seemed like the right idea to me).
As soon as I replaced the filter with the one that came with my old dial up adsl modem from my ISP the phone now rings when someone calls.

Does this mean that the splitter that came with my router (sealed up and brand new) is borked or a dud or is there something else going on?

It's all working fine now, but if anyone has an explanation other than a duff microfilter I'd like to hear what might be the problem.

Ta.

If one works and one doesn't then the one that doesn't is dud. Seems simple to me. Microfilters are strange devices and I've often had to use different types to get things working correctly but I've not come across a working one that stops incoming rings.

Cheers fella.
Seems odd, but I guess that's 'puters for you. :D
Ah well, so long as it works properly I'm not going to stress over it ;)
