Would you guys say its worth £29?

I tried the Demo today and i think it was okay and looked nice,a lot of negative results though on a lot of gaming review websites.

I've also played the demo and although I enjoyed it to some degree, when I do actually buy it I won't be paying that for it. I'd say around a tenner, max.

I don't think it's the disaster some reviews made it out to be but at the same time it's no triple A title that is worth £29 either.

I'd give it a month or so and you should be able to pick it up for half that, maybe even less. I'd say it would be worth that amount ... imho of course.

I base how much a game is worth on equivilent cinema prices - so basically 1.5 hours gameplay for every £5 spent on a game, any more than that and I feel that the game is worth it. I.e. if I spend £5 on a 1.5 hour film then for £30 I would get 9 hours.

I have spent just under 9 hours on DNF, according to Steam, and will definitely spend longer so in my opinion the game is worth the price tag as I have enjoyed it for more than the equivilent that I would spend entertaining myself in that time.

But yeah it's not actually that bad and if you liked the older style shooters with a bit of fun involved it fills a few hours here and there and has enough variety to keep you interested.

£29? Probably not no.... however its a steamworks game so you can buy it from greenman gaming or other sites which have it for around £22 and use the CDKEY you get on steam and download away, saying around £7.

Personally I didn't mind the single player but thought the multiplayer was abysmal. Didn't help the fact that the netcode is rubbish and I can't get a decent ping to any of the games on it either.

Its just about worth £5 all it is gameplay wise is something which belonged in the 1990's & the gfx are so shockingly sub standard for 2011 you cannot believe how bland/poor it looks. Metacritic user reviews & even Gamespot/GameFAQs are pretty accurate in saying this is a poor game.

I would avoid paying much for it as a lot of people like me who paid full price feel letdown by how terrible it is there is literally nothing good about it at all its 1990's Duke game in a 2003-4 game engine :( HL2 looks much better & thats what 7 years old.........

This tbh, it's not even close to the "shocking/terrible" 3/10 reviews people are giving it just to drum up traffic for their sites.

I'd wait until it's slightly cheaper at least. I especially wouldn't pay £29 when it can already be had for well under £25.

Well worth the £23 I paid for it recently and imo not any worse than most of the current shooters on the market. It has it's flaws but it has it's charms.

Personally I think it's probably worth around £5.

I loved DN but that was ages ago. It has some nostalgic bits and the comments that Duke makes are funny but it doesn't stay funny it get's very repetitive. I managed to do the first few levels but it got very repetitive and boring.

Obviously it's been very rushed in order to cash in on the franchise but for something that's take over ten years to make it should be stunning.

Sadly it's a massive let down - I'd personally save my money and get something different.

With respect to the game, does it not follow the same trend of other modern shooters? I don't want to seem like I'm on a crusade to defend it here but most of the criticism I've seen can be easily applied to other and more well received games on the market. It seems like everyone was expecting DN:3D with a high res pack rather than a new game for today's market.

I paid £20 for it, which I think is probably about the most the game is worth. £10-£15 is probably a fair price.

IMHO: Don't worry too much about the reviews. There's a lot of hyperbole and silliness flying around about this game. It's by no means a great game, but it is a fairly competent shooter, albeit one that's held together with nonsense, gibberish and a sense of humour that doesn't seem to know when it's being satirical and when it's not. All in all, there's eight or so hours of fun to be had, provided you're willing to leave your brain at the door.

This.

I do not have an explanation as to why the game got destroyed by the media.

That sums it up. For me, the above is a good thing and I dont know what the heck people were expecting. If it was anything other than a 90's shooter, I would have been disappointed.

People expected a AAA game when Duke 3D never was a AAA game, just attracted a loyal but loud fan base.

This game was made for the Duke diehards, (Admittedly, not all of them liked it but you cant please everyone) I am sure the IP is not dead and they will release a "modernised" Duke in due course but I dont know why a 90's shooter got destroyed by the media for being just that.

Has more gameplay time than other claimed to be "AAA" titles.

i feel sorry for those who paid full price on release :(

Demo was disgustingly bad, the parts in the beginning with the giant boss fight...I actually thought "this game isnt bad gearbox have a hit on their hands here"...everything after the boss fight was a big pile of FAIL.
