I know nothing about painting, going to paint living room, so I was looking at paints and see that dulux is almost twice the price of colours, is it better paint or what's the deal?

So far I have a booklet with paint colours and am trying to match the current colour although there are a few it could be, the other thing is whether the current paint is matte or eggshell, I am pretty sure it's matte although it does have a slight eggshell texture but I think that's maybe bad painting causing that.

Any other tips regarding painting a living room are welcome.

I didn't find much difference between colours and dulux. Crown was slightly better but not by a lot. Just buy which ever has the colour you'd like or is on offer/ cheaper at the time.

If you know nothing then buy johnstones covaplus. You'll get a great finish. You won't find it in homebase or the like, brewers or an independent paint shop.

Less coats better quality.

Just like we wouldn't buy generic high street computers why buy generic high street paint?

Don't buy Dulux. It's expensive and not very good.

Have look at either Crown or Johnstones.

I've heard the opposite (and from personal experience am inclined to believe it).

Don't know about Johnstones, but IMO Dulux is superior to Crown.

Re: the OP - colours is basically B&Q's own brand range. Make of that what you will.

I think B&Q sell Johnstones, sure I've seen it in there before.

Just finish our bedroom with "Wickes Colour @ Home Vinyl Silk Emulsion Paint" done and amazing job.. covered pure white with mid grey in one coat easily.
Done other rooms with the same brand in browns and creams with the same performance..

Ive used many paints during the years and this is one of the best.

We just got a decorator in to do our bedroom, we supplied the paint which was the Wilko own brand.

Decorator was very impressed with the quality and at £10 per tin was a good but cheaper than the Dulux equivalent.

Own brand paint often comes from the very same factories using the same formulations as the big brands.

Got to agree I won't touch crown after having a gloss paint 10 years ago that went yellow before it even dried! and the only Johnstones I used was a magnolia that was nothing like any magnolia I've ever seen!
