Hi,

These have got to be the ultimate in dumb newbie app questions, however, believe it or not I have never downloaded or installed an app before. I have always used what apps were distributed as stock on mobile phones.

1. Do I always need to download an app to a device such as a mobile phone or a tablet or can I download the app or app installer file to a desktop computer?

2. Does an app download as an installer file or does it download as some type of auto configuration file that is then removed from the phone?

3. If I download a non free app to a mobile phone and I change the phone is it possible to transfer the app or app installer file to the new phone or do I need to purchase it again for the new mobile phone?

The app I am thinking of getting is Textra to use instead of the default SMS app on my phone. However, the same questions above would apply to apps in general rather than specifically to Textra.

Thx
Bintos

Since you're looking at Textra, then you're on Android. Simply open the Play Store. Click on Textra, and choose to "Install"

You've really overcomplicated it mate.
Apps are locked to your account, so if you change devices later and you've paid for an app then when you sign in with your Google account on your new phone all your stuff comes along with it.
You can if you want to browse the Play Store using a web browser, and if you are signed into your Google account, you can click to install apps to any of your devices from there. This automatically sends the app straight to you phone over Wifi/Data.

Once you have Textra installed, all your text messengers etc will be there and you should be offered the choice by your phone to use Textra as the default SMS app.
It's very easy - enjoy : )

Thx for the reply.

I did not know about signing in with google accounts or how they worked with the Play Store. It seems simple enough, off we go....

Thx
