Dumb question about RAM installation

Hi installed 2 x 4GB sticks into an Asus Z97-K board. There are 4 slots, 2 for channel A and 2 for channel B. What's the recommended installation for 2 sticks here ?

Is it both in one channel (eg channel A) or is it one in each channel ?

1 and 3 I believe or 2 and 4

They should be color coded also, if so then put them in the same colors. But what TheGentry said is how my board works.

Also, the motherboard manual will always tell you which slots to use. On some they don't have colour differences.
