I've got a Gigabyte P35-DS4 motherboard which has pci express 1.x slots and I'd like to get either the nvidia gtx275 or ati 4890 which are listed as pci express 2.0 cards. My stupid question of the day is will they work with my motherboard, I'm sure that the pci express 2.0 cards are backwards compatible with the 1.x slots but would like to check before I spend the money.

Cheers in advance for looking at my stupid question :)

You are correct, PCI is both backwards and forwards compatible as far as I am aware, the only issue you will have is making sure your PSU is up to the job.
