Dumb question regarding PCI-E bandwidth

I've got a Asus P5W64-WS motherboard which is PCI-E 1.0a spec, I don't have any plans currently to change the motherboard because it's hooked up to my Vapo and I'm lazy. I also have a HD4870X2 which is "supposed" to be used in a PCi-E 2.0+ spec motherboard (i.e. it may currently be slightly under utilised)

Anyyyway, I need to buy a new soundcard and it seems nowadays all the new ones are PCI-E based.

The motherboard has 4 PCI-E slots, in a 16x/0/4x/0 or 8x/8x/4x/8x layout (I think).

Basically what I want to know is whether or not I will be crippling my graphics card by installing ANY other PCI-E card?

Thanks.

From looking at my motherboard if I stuck it in slot 3 it would be pretty much touching the cooler on my HD4870X2, so it seems I can either use slot 4 or a PCI slot :(
