Hi

I built a machine from old 775 components and have it set up at the GF's house. I installed Steam to see what it can run, and installed LOTR for her little boy to play.

He's probably on it right now and I'm back at my place, if I started up Steam from my main machine will Steam interpret my account as being hacked?

Can 1 account be used on 2 machines simultaneoulsly?

Thanks

If the lad does not play online stick the Steam client on his machine into offline mode. Then you can go online and play on your machine.

LOL.

Best of luck with STEAM's, ahem....'offline' mode.

The offline mode that works like a dream.......providing you always have an internet connection and are infact online.

I hate STEAM more than I hate Origin. Much more so.

Why not set-him up an account of his own and just install LotR to it?

Because one game can only be registered to one account. The sort of DRM that console gamers are bitchin about with the up and coming XBox One has been the reality with STEAM for years.....right down to the limited amount of time offline before the DRM client wants to touch base again....and if base cant be touched, then you dont get to play any of the games you paid for, whilst yer piratey buddy, Jolly Roger, gets to sit and game unperturbed by Valve's corporate nonsense.

LotR is free to download and play. So that renders your little rant moot.

Not really.

LotR may be free to play.....but most games are not. And the STEAM client will still not allow the gamer to play the game unless online connection can be established every 48 hours or something.

Rant is valid and the rant stands.

I played and finished Metro 2033 on Steam without an internet connection in late 2010/early 2011. No problems apart from it didn't keep a log of hours played.

Works fine here m8, just need a connection to go in offline mode and all is well.

I just pop steam online, the I can go offline when ever I want, only takes one login before you can start playing offline or without a connection.

I don't see what the big deal is anyway, it's a digital download service, you can't complain about internet requirements when you need the internet to download and install the games in the first place.

I dont know why I am bothering but...

.....if any of you are ever in a situation where you want to some gaming on a PC/laptop in a circumstance where an online connection is impossible, you will soon experience STEAM's 'offline' mode, locking you out from your STEAM games on the grounds of the client not being to connect to server.

Please dont tell me Steam's offline mode works, because I know for a fact that it doesn't.
