Dumped Car

My girlfriend lives in Manchester, her and the neighbours park their cars on the side of the road (no driveways). About 4-5 weeks ago a car appeared to be parked there (Audi S3, W reg - i think).

She's friendly with the neighbours, and none of the neighbours know who owns the car. One of the neighbours has contacted both the council and the police to report the car as possibly stolen. The car in question is still taxed, but has had a puncture and not moved in the 4-5 weeks. They've no idea if the police have come to check the car out, or even if they've tried to contact the owner.

Is there anything else they can do?

I think you mis-read. They've already contacted the police about the car, but have no idea if they've been round to take a look.

Thanks for the responses so far. Admittedly there does seem to be little they can do whilst it is still taxed. They were hopeful that the police could at least check with the owner that he knows its there. If he is aware and has just parked it there, then obviously they can't do anything about it.

No. It's taxed, it can be parked anywhere as long as it doesn't cause an obstruction. What does it have to do with your girlfriend or her neighbours? I don't mean that question to sound confrontational, only literal - what's it got to do with them?

Sorry I should have mentioned in my original post. They live on the corner of two adjacent roads so have no parking outside of the house. There is a wide pavement that the council have marked for residential parking. However the space is really limited to 1 car per household, and with this other car dumped, it obviously causes an inconvenience to them.

Sorry, I'm still not quite sure I get it. Is it in actual designated residents parking space or is it just on the road?

It is parked in designated residential parking, of which the owner is clearly not a resident.
