A while back I was asking about freesat recorders on here and my partner and I have totted up the math and realised we are handing sky £240 a year for the privalege to record and have a few extra channels.

So I will be picking up a foxsat hd which I have been told is a good recorder and then will be slapping in a 1tb sata drive. The only thing I need to know is any freesat channels we cannot get we just use the top up tv thing right? My partner watches Living because of supernatural (shes into all that kinda thing) so im assuming the odd channel at a £1 is way better than £240 which knowing sky will go up again in april.

Of course your right its freeview that does top up tv arghhh lol...

No I mean can you pay to get extra channels on freesat I mean? or isnt that possible...

No pay TV on Freesat, infact a lot of freeset boxes dont even have CAM/CI slots, so cant have secure decryption of pay channels, and its very unlikely that pay channels would be satisifed by a software only solution to pay TV.

Tell me about it m8! And add to that the fact my missus only watches supernatural once a week it really sucks, im tempted to find a suitable way of getting these episodes for her...

Im just fed up of paying out to sky for imho isnt much seeing as a decent box will record, allow bigger hard drives and save us a ton of money that could go on something else.

EDIT: just rememberd our freeview tv has a card slot on the side... Will check this out as I might be able to get that one channel via that and then I can cancel this sky sub :D

I think supernatural may be one of the programmes broadcast by topup. That said the fee's are about £12pm so added to the cost of a new PVR box you may well be better off ringing sky threatening to leave and seeing what type of deal you can get.

Are they as good the freesat ones?

Was thinking about doing this as well as I'm really fed up with my parents being hasseled by sky

i guess the OP has never heard of NEWSGROUPS!

i to watch supernatural, awsome indeed, and have grabbed every single episode right up to its current episode. :)

fastest way to get them for her and she would love you for it cause instead of 1 episode per week you could grab her 5 per week :D or more lol

Oh ive heard of newsgroups m8 but at the moment we lowered our poxy broadband which hit our monthly usage allowance in the nads and now im being hasseld by bt all because the kids and I watch a few youtube vids every now and then!

No topup tv on freesat, most freesat boxes have niether cam nor card slots, so nobody makes cams or cards for them, even for the small number of boxes that do include a slot. Topup is freeview only.

It's illegal to download TV unless its authorised by the broadcaster and/or creator... IE BBC's iPlayer "Good", download a video capture that was broadcast in the USA, and placed on a newsgroup "Bad". While its your choice to download TV, its not really good forum ettiquette to actually recommend it to others :P.

Although most people dont get caught, the fines are very heavy if you do, and if you download enough hi-def content ISP's "can" start to get funny too.. its a lot of bandwidth use, check your broadband T&C about fair use policies etc.
