Hey all got to head up north next week

Wondering if any locals know whether the A90 or the A92 is the best road to take between these 2 places. Looks like 6 and half a dozen on the map.

Also, Aberdeen at rush hour in the morning, is it possible to take the A90 bypass or would I be better cutting accross the B979 like this?

I'm not local - quite the opposite - but we used to go up there on holiday and we always used to use the A90 - fairly good road it goes around the towns on the route rather than through them like the A92 does.

Can't really help with the 2nd bit.

I personally would take the A92, for no other reason than the view.

I am biased though as my northern journeys are naturally the A90/92 from Edinburgh depending.

I though you were going dundee - stonehaven? if you are going further north are you going into or wanting to skip out aberdeen?

if you just want to get up there the A90 is the best route, just be careful of the speed cameras though, LOTS of them.
the worst bit will be trying to get out of dundee by the forfar road on to the A90 at rush hour, the traffic lights there can be a bloody nightmare, but once you are out of dundee, its plain sailing, the traffic is never any problem after that, well until you approach aberdeen anyway.

going by the A92 will take a fair bit longer, the A92 between dundee and arbroath has been done up and is now dual carriageway and is as good as the A90, after that its just 1 lane is a fairly nice road with a bit more to look at though.
but personally i'd just hit up the A90.

Yeah cheers all will just take the A90 , I remember from last time that there are shed loads of cameras.

I'm heading up to the north coast, so don't need to go in aberdeen. I remember last time I went up it took about 45 -60 mins just to get through aberdeen ( I stayed on the main road) so wondered if the bypass actually works (so I can stay on a main road) or whether i'm best avoiding completely as shown in the link.
