There are a few nice pubs. DCA on the Nethergate at the end of South Tay St is nice for lunch and going out. That area is the best for eating and drinking.

If it's more student based then still the same but further up South Tay St towards the Westport.

If you want pubs in a traditional way stay on the other side of the Marketgait ie the overgate side.

That should help you out.

The top end of the Perth Road has some traditional style pubs(e.g. old man types), further down and closer to town you get to the more smart-casual style - Braes, Tonic and DCA are all pretty decent for meals, the first two are pub-style meals basically. The Social on the street opposite the DCA has just been refurbished and the food used to be reasonable although all too frequently it is filled with over-pretentious eejits.

I don't normally go directly into the city centre for nights out but The Counting House is very much a generic Wetherspoons on Reform Street so if you want cheap drinks then that might be worth it.

As mentioned by semi-pro waster, Perth Road is where much of the better (in terms of quality and variety) pubs can be found. I, too, will be heading out tonight and personally will be going to places like Braes, DCA, Bar No.25/Basement, Tempelane and Tally Ho's etc.

I might even wander in to Social; if you're willing to look past the pretentious clientele they do have a decent selection of spirits. All of these pubs area all broadly modern, to varying degrees, and you can normally get a feel pretty quickly if it’s your kind of place. If you're looking for a traditional pub with an excellent selection of beers/spirits, I'd recommend Trades House Bar on Union Street.

Have a good one wherever you end up, I may even 'see' you ;).
