Dune

Just watching part1.

Few questions

Why did paul and his dad come to arrakis? The harkounun were there, then they left, then the came back? Why leave in the first place?
Because the Emperor commanded House Atreides to take over the stewardship of Arrakis.

Duke Leto was becoming far too popular in the Landsraad (galactic council), so the Emperor set up a no-win situation for the Atreides.

Were you on your phone for the films duration? Serious question as it’s all explained in the film.

But the emperor sends troops with the harkonoun to take the planet back. Why?

Was atrides going to become the new Emperor?

To destroy a rival’s entire House and bloodline.

It was a possibility that Duke Leto might gain enough support to challenge the Emperor, especially if the Spacing Guild (who can’t operate without the Spice from Arrakis) backed Leto as they were increasingly unhappy with how the Harkkonens were running the Spice trade.

This is were watching the first 10 minutes of David Lynch's Dune would make it easier to understand what was going on.

Edit: Apart from the "sound" bit.

Arrakis has the biggest intergalactic Walmart in the known universe. They had a sale on eggs.

The Harkonnen got their first but realised they had left the oven on and had to go home to turn it off. They came back after they had turned off the oven but were angry they had lost their place in the egg queue, thus the genocide.

Its pretty straight forward.

The atredes have a very capable army and they probably could have overpowered the harkonens. The emperor made sure to have insurance and that was his elite ermy the sardukar.

The atredes were becoming very popular and the emperor was a very jealous man.

Villeneuve dune is boring as hell. Looks great, and the battle sequences are brill...but boy does it drag.

I'm inclined to agree, after a fashion. Villeneuve's Dune does what is does so beautifully but it does so little of it given the run time. In some respects for all that it's a mess I like the ambition to try and tell the whole story in Lynch's version.

Dust off Dune II (original version) on the pc that’s where it’s at. It actually gives the back story aswell. The game that got me into Pc gaming.

Theres a 4K AI upscaled fan edition of the 1984 Dune with all deleted scenes added. I've the original in DVD. I like that movie.

I think the 1984 narrates the story better. But its a very quirky weird style, was weird even in the 80s. Also 75% of that movie is 50% of the book. They seem to squeeze the last 50% into a fraction of that space. Feels rushed. My kids think it's weird and oddly cut.

New one is amazing. Sound, cinematography the fights, the effects and the acting top notch especially that speech in the second movie. But yet it left a lot out and changed a few things. But I'll forgive it, the essence of the story is all there. Both movies are amongst the best scfi movie ever.

It's probably doesn't explain stuff enough for a main stream audience, and a modern audience is used to non stop fighting scene in movies. Thankfully none of that here.
