hello,i was wondering there ant much diff in the price between these so i was wondering what would be the best to get;

Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 "LGA775 Conroe" 3.00GHz
and
Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W Edition" 2.40GHz

the computer would be used for msn,aim and gameing only.

thanks a lot.

Which games? Not many are optimised for quad cores.

And the E6850 is a waste of money, there are better value dual core alternatives

No sense in you getting a Quad right now so just stick with a Duo. If you're not going to overclock and you have the cash, get the E6850. If you will be overclocking, get an E6550/E6750 or an E4500 if you want to do it on the cheap.

E2180 if you go dual and plan to overclock.
E6750 if you don't plan on overclocking.

I have just upgraded from a Pentium D930 to an E6750 and the difference is unbelievable. The fastest CPU I've ever had.

So i would recommend the E6750.

Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W = £152.74

Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.66GHz = £119.84

Why on earth wouldn't you want two more cores for £32

If you bought a E6750 over a Q6600 then you need your lumps felt TBH!

Indeed;)

Not that much different tbh, my Q6600 happily does 3.4GHz, I guess you might get another 300/400 Mhz out of a duo.

But remember I have another two cores under the hood :)

I'm not a big fan of waiting, the Q6600 is hardly "big money", enjoy it while you can and if you feel compelled to buy a new CPU then stick it on MM's
