just posted a topic in hardware about my setup not posting but a quick question if i killed my cpu or damaged it would the pc still start up prior to posting ie i'm trying to eliminate my cpu being at fault or my mobo.

ye i'm hoping my cpu's ok everthing spins up fans drives etc but it just wont post getting the one long and two short beeps with just the cpu and heatsink installed soon as i add anything graphics memory nothing just the gentle noise of fans wurring....

cleaned and reset the cpu/heatsink several times reset the cmos about 20 tried the graphics cards and tested them on friends rigs, but non of em a let me strip there systems down to test the CPU (cant blame em).
the back plate on the big typhoon i installed was pulled pretty tight and there was two metel lugs that belonged to the caps by the socket (pb5 delux mobo) that were very close to the metal back (did follow the instruction to a tee when installing but thought at the time when tightening the heatsink it was putting a lot of strain on the board.
As a side note how much manhandaling can the duo's take been pretty carefull not to touch the underside but have cleaned the thing seems about a hundred times....

took the heatsink off and installed the retail that came with the duo still no go never thought of trying outside the case will give it a go thanks.
Just ordered the asus commando just in case i've borked the board just hope and praying it's not the cpu with the cost of new gfx and mobo i'm running out of money..... :(

again tested memory on friends pc and all ok the only things i haven't tested is mobo and cpu and like i said in previous post mobo bein delivered wednesday fingers crossed cpu is ok

yes thats what the manual says which while powering up an bare bones system cpu/heatsink thats the only beeps i get it's when i install anything else i get nothin only the fans and drives working no beeps no post

Right striped it down again and put on the retail heatsink all outside the case and it works so i've got a short someware and the only other point i've picked up on is that the retail heatsink as got 4 wires on the plug and my typhoon only 3,the 4th wire must be the onboard sensor does it need the sensor to work
i'm cutting some rubber up to insulate the risers and going to try again....

the makeshift washers worked a treat pc now up and running in case just got to find another heatsink any ideas no water or passive
