Can you just buy a roll or sheet of the foam filter stuff they use in the pre-made filters or something like it?

I want to make my own and use it where I want rather than trying to bodge on something that isn't what I want.

Yes I had thought of them although I was after something a bit more rigid like the foam stuff, there seems to be a few options including aquarium foam filter material and cooker hood foam filter material, the only problem is I have no idea how dense they are without buying them and trying.

Pity you can't just buy the damn stuff they make the actual filters with

You can get varying densities of aquarium pads but they can be quite thick. Ebay is a excellent source for cheap non-branded pads. I get the ones for my fish tank from there. I actually use aquarium filter wool as a filter for my radiator box to filter the dust out of the incoming outside air. It works a treat and my rads are completely dust free even after years of use.

That looks similar to dust mask material, isn't that a bit restrictive/dense for PC fans to 'breathe' through? It also looks a bit like vacuum cleaner bag material, I have a load of them here I could try cutting one up but again, I think it's a bit too restrictive, my T shirt passes air through it much better, I suppose I could try cutting up an old one of those.

I was looking at the open cell foam stuff, but getting something suitable would be just a punt.

Found some decent looking stuff in the end, it helps when you find out what it's used for so you know where to look.

If it helps anyone else then search in the 'Lab Equipment > Lab Supplies > Filtration Supplies' section on ebay, loads of SS wire mesh in tons of varying grades of mesh.

Thanks for the links.
