Dust filter raising temps

Hi,

I have an Air 540 and regularly clean the dust filter however even when clean fitting the dust filter raises the temp on the probe I have installed by 8C when gaming, removing it sees the temp drop to normal levels.

This might not normally be a problem for most but the probe is next to the motherboard VRM so I can keep an eye on it, I need to keep this area as cool as possible which is fine without the filter fitted.

I have 3 x 120MM Be Quiet Shadow Wing intake fans, they are not static pressure optimised and they are awesome fans without the filter fitted, my guess is its the fans not able to pull air through the filter?

Or is it the filter being over two years old? Looks fine to me, maybe a bit saggy in its old age :)

Anyone else experience a similar issue and how did you get around it?

Thanks

Unfortunately even the best dust filters will restrict airflow to some extent. I would personally rather have the dust filters than a case full of dust.

Have you got the temp probe fixed to the vrm heatsink? I have a pair of probes jammed into the slots in the top and rear vrm heatsinks on my board. To keep them in place I jammed a small piece of black high density foam in with them. Try that and see if you get such a large temperature variance on the actual heatsink with and without the filters.

I've had to resort to running without the filter, the temps get too high on the VRMs with it fitted, there is a big difference with it off

The probe sits about 1mm from the heatsink and its been like that for over 12 months so its easy for me to see what effects any changes I make have on the temp, all my fans adjust based on that temp so moving it now would make cause an issue with fan speeds

I was thinking more along the lines of if a different filter or if a different set of intake fans would make a difference, if not I'll just run it without a filter and regularly clean it
