my case uses the standard mesh type dust filters but i find that some dust still gets past them. are the foam type filters more effective in preventing dust from getting in?

Dust filters won't completely shield the internals from dust, some fine dust will get through the filter and the various holes in your chassis and deposit on components.

Could be that there is a problem getting enough airflow through the front, and air is being pulled in from places like the PCI-E slot covers at the back of the case that may be open.

iv sealed up all other holes with tape but front filters are not that good for actual filtration. will have to see what i can improvise with. cabin filter from a car seems like a option.

A positive pressure setup with the fans (more intake than exhaust) will help with dust as it wont try and suck air in through the vents and gaps.

been hunting around looks like i need foam type of filters which offer depth filtering. the mesh type i already have still lets in the super fine powdered sort of dust.

ladys stockings best filters u ever want. no joke.
make sure u have positive air presure. more intake filters than blowouts.

iv seen lady stocking mentioned all over the place dunno if its just a prank or if its the real deal.
was gonna give one of those covid masks a try next. lol

The problem is that anything past the stock case filters are going to be blocking a huge amount of airflow. Is dust really such a problem? My servers run 24/7 with no filters and only need an annual clean.

My server runs 24 7 been 6 months and had to clean it cpu hitting 85c in video encoding. Heatsink was clogged. Cleaned it out and temps back down to 65c.

The more dust you eliminate the more it chokes the airflow. How much dust are we talking here getting past your filters?

That seems a bit backward, how do you figure that removing more dust restricts airflow?

Sounds more like filters doing what they're designed to do, collecting dust (thus restricting airflow), that's why you have filters, so it's all in one place that you can easily clean.

Premade filters then Demiflex are probably the best and may have to get a custom kit cut for your case as your case is not listed (no doubt because it is mesh).

If the mesh is too fine, it will stop the airflow.

So does dust, so the intake hole would need be larger to account for the fact you loose some of that open area with the filter.

Cars seem to run fine with an air filter on the front of engine, again the hose will be oversized to account for the restriction.

It makes next to no difference 1-2C max dependant on AMB Temp/Fan speed to my 200mm front and 200mm side intake fans with rear 140mm and 200mm top Exhaust fans

I would not have a 120mm in my PC nowadays, 140mm at min due to air and noise (most PSU's have a 140mm fan), the GPU (Titan Xp FE) is the smallest and loudest even at idle in my PC.
