Anyone know of any fixes?

Would the apple store sort this out if I popped in? It's only a small black mark but it's definately behind the plastic front (seemingly appeared overnight)!

Are you sure its dust ? Shine a torch on the screen.

I had dust and smudges and something I have never been able to identify under my first attempt(s) at purchasing a macbook, if it isn't really noticeable then I'd say leave it, that was the problem with my first and everything went downhill from there with the replacements....

It definately looks like dust - it's near the bottom of the screen and so sits on the start bar (in windows), so quite annoying. This is my 3rd replacement - so really dont want to go through swapping it again!

Can these screens not be dissasembled easily then? If an apple store can open it up to clean it then that would probably be the ideal solution.

I've already had one screen replaced due to this (pre-unibody MBP). Now my new screen has developed the same thing - it's so annoying.

I had to get it done on Applecare so you might have to get it swapped unfortunately.

I went through three before Christmas and just now picked up a fourth, looks like the only thing I have spotted wrong with this one (so far, haven't used it in natural light yet as its sat in my dingy work space charging, that's when I noticed all the crap under the screens) is a slightly loose battery cover, not like the youtube vids but just makes a little noise on one side.

re: repairs iirc the entirety of the top assembly is an individual *part* as far as they are concerned.

I have seen an account of someone who prised the "glossy" layer off (it snapped in the process) and covered the black surround with a custom made silver one (after a failed attempt to replace the panel with one from a macbook air) so they ended up with a matte screen and nothing to get dust trapped under. A little bit excessive and wouldn't do your warranty much good !
