I recently posted a thread asking about dust filters which i still need to get,
dust is a big problem for me as i cant seem to reduce it no matter what i try(hoovering etc.) i cleaned out my case the other day and got out as much of the dust as i can but i was wondering how can i clean the heat sink fins with out taking it off the cpu? how can i get the dust out of my psu? and i have the OcUK ATI Radeon 6950 and want to know what is the best way to clean the fan fins and the dust inside the gpu. all without voiding any warranties.

thanks guys :)

Compressed air or thin paint brushes usually do the trick. Some GPUs allow you to remove the covers to clean the heatsink inside. I seem to recall getting e-mail reminders from one manufacturer to do it lol.

1) remove part
2) swallow saliva
3) shut eyes
4) blow hard (at component)
5) get told of by missus for making dust storm..

step 5 and can easily be avoided with common sense...

Yeah like doing it in the garden! ;)

Just make sure she hasn't put the washing out! LOL :D

i use a hoover and a soft brush, i use the soft brush to lift the dust and then use the hoover to clean the brush

i know the hoover has a brush attachment, but the bristles are hard and could also cause static (?)

I use the gf's blusher brushes, massive soft bristles get everywhere.

To try and avoid getting a dusty case, have all your fans except the rear exhaust as intakes....positive pressure works wonders.

Personally I prefere blowing rather than sucking (phanar phanar) but whatever you do (esp if using a hoover) be aware of fixing your fans so they dont spin madly while doing so, it's an easy way to bugger up the bearings.

As said, a nice collection of paintbrushes. I have one very large soft forgoing over the motherboard and other delicate components and a long brush with stiff bristles for getting inside the fan chassis and fins.. Works a treat.

Garage/workshop compressor with blow gun on the end of pipe. Cleans out great only don't let the fans overspeed with the air blast. A finger generally enough to stop fan spinning though only apply when fan isn't moving in the interests of health and safety! Cleans heatsink fins a treat. Of course all the usual warnings apply and unplug computer from the mains before starting

Thats how i do it :) and the fine brushes to get right in the gaps

Paddling pool electric pump stick it outside and blast away all that dust simple.

THAT'S GENIUS!

I always use a small paint brush personally, then hoover up the dust/fluff that drops off. Imagine compressed air would be better though for that stubborn hard to remove dust build up between heatsink fins! :)
