My attic is where all the cat6 runs to but is very dusty due to my old roof lining breaking apart and ended up killing two switch's over the past 10 years as the fans got seized due to gunk. Is there someway I can help stop all my network gear getting gummed up with dust? Is there any material to filter the vent holes in my comms cabinet.

Unless you stay on top of cleaning the filter eventually it will become saturated/blocked up and then either the equipment might overheat or particles get in via other openings, etc.

Most data cabinets have pre-cut fan mounts you can use to maintain positive pressure with filtered intake fans which will largely prevent dust, etc. getting in - though if possible ducting the cooling to outside air would bypass the issues of the local environment (for awhile I ran one of my cabinets just using a bit of DIY'd 100mm flexible PVC hosing and attachments, vents, etc.).
