I'm currently upgrading a lot of things in my place, one of which is my bed, which I have got a nice king size acacia bed on its way. About to pull trigger on a decent mattress, and now considering duvets...

I had a double before with a king duvet, but does anyone have a super king duvet on their king bed? 6ft vs 5ft is a big difference versus 5ft and 4ft 6...

PS going for Hungarian goose down duvet / pillows :)

Ours is a king size bed with a super king size feather down duvet. It's lush. Plenty of duvet for us both (or all three when our three year old daughter decides to snuggle in too!)

Down duvets are fantastic (although a little noisy/rustley to start with).

Go for it. The more duvet the better, especially if you have a duvet-grabbing-takes-everything-with-her-when-she-turns-over kind of other half (not that I bear a grudge about what she does in her sleep ).

It just doesn't look quite as smart arguably, as it over-hangs further, but then who cares about that. Also they're obviously more expensive.

Thanks guys, don't mind costs, just need to decide which company has the best Hungarian goose down duvet...John Lewis, The White Company...

Superking it is :)

What about pillows? Did you guys go for kingsize pillows or just the standard 50x75s?

Harrods usually do some good deals on Hungarian Goose Down duvets in their sales. The next one is in the summer for one but given the current climate it might worth having a look now.

try these http://www.duvetandpillowwarehouse.co.uk/

Supposed to be same quality but cheaper than the big name stores

Used before with good results

this is quite possibly the worst duvet company on the planet.

i received 4 pillows and a hungarian goose down duvet.

the pillows had feathers sticking out of it (the pointy ends) and being jabbed in the face constantly is not something you need whilst trying to sleep.

the duvets were worse, the down was constantly leaking out the duvets.

i sent them all back and replacements arrived which were just as bad. my room, egyptian coton sheets everything was covered in down, i had sheets, clothes and equipment ruined because of this, the stuff gets everywhere because it is so light.

i then just went to M and S and bought a decent anti allergy normal duvet, saved myself about £200 too in the process.

people say down is the best, but that simply isn't the case.

if you need a light duvet, then yes down is lighter, but synthetic does just as good a job at 1/3rd of the price and is a bit heavier. imo you should save the money and put it towards a good mattress.

the rough costings of my bed in total are

£250 - faux leather with hydraulic lift ottoman double (RRP was £400, i bought in sale from tesco direct)
£349 - pocket sprung mattress, double (price in debenhams was £1299, i bought it online from a different company and it was the last one in stock and when they re-stocked the price had went up)
£150 - pillows and duvet from M and S (king size, anti allergy, all seasons)

as you can see I spent the least amount of money on the the duvet, after the amount of trouble I had with down, i just went for M and S who are a reputable British Brand and bought the best synthetic one they had at the time.

my mattress is solid, takes 3 people to lift it, luckily my bed has a hydraulic lift built in with 2 pistons to help with the weight, even then it is a struggle to get it up (that's what she said). it was on debenhams site for £1299 in double size, made by sleepeezee

that is the mattress and the company i bought it from, I also bought a dining table and 6 chairs from them for about £800 too, everything they stock is of a really high quality.

Was £1180.00> Now £531.00> Now £472.00

Save £708.00

That is debenhams site now, but I can assure you when i purchased mine it was £1299 and they had not reduced it, the mattress definitely is bulletproof.

the frame is something you do not need to spend money on, but i did because i wanted an ottoman, i wanted leather and it needed to be easy to open up.

The White Company linen is pretty good, I've had high thread count stuff from other companies and it just doesn't wash the same.
I only seen the duvets but they look to be of the same quality.

It is a bit overpriced IMO, so other less well known companies may be comparable.
