Please excuse me in this post, but I know very little about DV cameras hence I need some advice. A friend has a Sony DV Camera with a few hours of footage from a trip to Australia that she'd like to put onto DVD. I have already fitted a DVD-RW drive and firewire card to the PC for her to do this. However, the whole process is very slow. I get the impression that because the camera has a physical real of tape inside it, 1 hours footage on the camera takes 1 hour to transfer to the PC (please correct me if I'm wrong).

In addition to this, her PC is a good 4-5years old, so is generally pretty slow anyway. Would a modest upgrade do anything to speed up the capturing process, or in any other way benefit what she is mainly trying to do with her PC? Windows and her other applications in general will obviously be speedier, but my knowledge of DV cameras, like I said, is very limited.

Thanks for any help,

Michael.
