I need one of these for the fortcoming World cup, to use on my laptop at work.

But I need one that has maximum gain on a aerial, because the signals really naff at work, can you connect an external aerial?

also, don't want to spend a fortune if I can get away with it.

Cheers

I dont know about finding the maximum gain on the aerial, i dont know if most manufacturers supply that info readily. But you can get signal boosters, they probably need an external power supply, if you have one handy at your desk.

Most of them do come with an external aerial, my Hauppauge HVR900 comes with a cool looking one. A review said that one gives the best signal out of all the supplied aerials from tv cards, but i couldnt get a single channel from it. Saying that though, i'm apparantly 22km+ from the nearest transmitter.

You'd probably have to find out how far you'd be from the nearest transmitter, and look up the net for signal quality others have had at around the same distance.
