DVD and latest VLC

Got the latest VLC 0.9.4 or something and DVD playback in it looks washed out, tried playing around with the settings but can't seem to make it look that much better. Anybody else found this with the latest and how they fixed the problem or is there another player that I should maybe be considering?

have you check video effects, especially the gamma settings or get PowerDvd.

Does the same thing happen with an older version of VLC? I had lots of problems with many different formats of video under the 0.9x series so reverted problem free down to 0.86i.
