I've got a Philips IDE DVD drive on Windows 7.

The device is listed in the BIOS and in the Device Manager on Windows 7, but I can't eject it.

For a while it kept on opening/closing constantly on its own and now it just doesn't respond to the button on the front or via My Computer > Eject.

Any ideas?

How old is it?When you press the eject button on it does the green LED turn on and does it also make sounds once you press the button like when reading a CD?

It's at least 3 years old. There're no signs of life when I press the eject button. I'm guessing it's probably on the way out?

Well that's a pain in the arse.

I did have a floppy drive that lasted about 4 days. Horrible things they were, never had any luck with them. It was cheaper just to get a new one than to send it back for a replacement.
