Hey, I finished building my new build last night after a few troubles:
Mobo-P5Q Deluxe
Proc- Q6600 stock (old)
ram- OCZ Gold Edition 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-6400C5
gfx- sapphire 5850

I used my old DVD-RW drive(IDE) in the computer along with the same hard drive(SATA).
I am now trying to install windows 7 but am having big troubles with the Disk drive.
If there's a disk in the drive Windows XP will just loop in its load up screen, whenever i put disks in it sounds as if the disk is being sped up and slowed down all the time.
I changed the boot priority to disk and tried to boot up via the windows 7 disk, after waiting for a while the background comes up and I get a controlable mouse on screen but it doesnt go further than that. Is this a faulty drive or are some pieces of hardware conflicting, I have no idea
Thanks

tl:dr Disk drive(IDE) doesnt work properly

Have you got to the bottom of it then?

Might be worth exploring booting from a usb stick. Just need to make an iso of win 7 and follow some instructions in the windows forum on creating a bootable usb stick.

Will get you by until you can figure out what's up with the drive.

I think I've seen this before with that board.

Try changing the DMA settings in the BIOS.

Cant remember how I fixed it though...sorry.

Thanks for the advice, soon after I wrote this I got a bsod and had to reformat meaning I was forced to wait for my disk drive to install Windows 7.
Buying a new drive soon so hopefully that will fix any problems.

Edit: It did.
