Hi,

I ripped 130 DVDs onto my computer a year or so ago so I could just simply play them on my PC now I want to get a NAS and stream them to either my xbox 360 or get a WD live, the problem is I have saved all these DVDs into .vob format (separate files, see picture below) and the xbox 360 will not pick these up.
So I need to convert these to another format and that’s where I need help I don't know what the best format is or what software to use? I have tried MKV but windows media centre doesn't allow this. I want a format that is universal to pretty much anything but keep the format in good quality, space isn’t that much of an issue but the less space used is always a plus! I also have a lot more DVDs/episodes to rip now!

If this is in the wrong forum could a mod move it to home cinema? Sorry!

is the 360 not able to play image files?

if not than i use a prog called Auto Gordian Knot which will convert your movie to an .avi format which the xbox is able to play.

I think the 360 may be able to play ISO files but the Western digital live streamer wouldn’t be able to it says on the website it does not support it.

Would AVI be the best format then? Will it be just as good quality? I just tried the Auto Gordian Knot and it seems that you can only select one .vob file at a time to convert? I want to convert all the .vob separate files into one if that is possible via AVI?

I also have been looking at DVDFab that seems to do what I want but there is so many different settings and for the AVI format there is about 15 different formats so I'm confused with that!

you need to select the largest .ifo file. Once selected a box will pop up saying there were several PGCs found, select the PGC according to the run time of the movie. If you want subtitles tick the boxes you need.

Next select the output folder for your movie.

Section 3, if you want the best quality and not too fussed on the file size set Target Quality to 100%.

Once done click on add job. Can either add another movie or click start.

I tried that and it worked! So thank you for that but it did have one problem it took around 1hour and 30mins to convert it :O

So I kept searching for some more software and came across Freemake it so simple to use so perfect for me I just have one question concerning the audio when converting if you are able to help. (I've added a picture example of the audio setting below)
As you can see from the photo there are 3 different settings to use
AC3 48hz 96bps Stereo
AC3 48hz 96kbps Stereo (English)
AC3 48hz 384kbps 5.1
I've added other DVDs to convert and they have a even higher 448kbps setting. They are all left on at the moment the default setting the program has set it to so I'm not use if to leave them all as they are or change them all to the 5.1 setting or Stereo? As I do want the best quality out of the convert.

Hope that isn't too confusing! Thank you!
