DVD Playback advice

My friend put a DVD film in his pc running XP and it came up something about copyright not right etc all in Windows media player. This happened with a couple of films which were all legit and above board. Installed media player 11 but still the same!! Anyone able to advise what this could be?

Some films were ok.

How do you change that in media player? The disc says PAL on it.

It should have a region number on it. 1-5 iirc.

To check what region your dvd drive is:

Go to my computer,
Right Click on the DVD drive and go to properties,
Go to "Hardware" tab, click properties,
Then go to "DVD Region" tab.

You can set it to whatever you want.

But don't change it yet unless you're sure it's a region problem, as you can only change it a few times.

What region is the DVD?

If the DVD disc is Region 1, and you've set the drive to UK, it wont play because Region 1 is USA. Region 2 is UK.
