ok.. so i followed peoples idea in the Hyundai N91W thread to set the brightness and contrast, but i have a few problems with playing dvds..

now.. this is the first time ive played dvd's on this new pc/monitor, so i dunno what it was like before fiddling, but now the picture is very dark, and u can hardly see darkish items as they all seem to become a blob....

2nd, the monitor is a widescreen, and my dvd's say widescreen, but they dont fill the screen, even in full screen mode...

ive been using WMP and Power dvd that came with my dvd drive

not sure about your brightness issue, but the reason it wont fill the screen is the dvds are encoded in 16:9 widescreen format but pc monitors are 16:10 widescreen

Couple of things that come to mind - firstly your screen is 16:10, so no DVD will fill the entire screen without being stretched at least a little. Second many DVD are in 2.35:1, which will give you black borders top and bottom on any screen. Look on the back of the box for ones that say 'anamorphic widescreen 16:9' and they will come as close as possible to filling the screen.

Also don't use WMP cause it's useless with widescreen monitors. Finally in PowerDVD select keep aspect ratio and full screen.
