I currently have a Philips Progressive Scan dvd player hooked up to a HDTV via component.

I am thinking of replacing the dvd player with one of Samsungs new Hypervision dvd players (Either the HD950 or HD850). This way I will be able to connect via HDMI.

Before I go ahead and buy it I am just wondering whether there would be a significant difference in image quality (i.e better image quality) to warrant the expense.

Any opinions greatly recieved.

I compared on my Samsung LE42R41BDX tv a Toshiba progressive scan player through component and a Samsung HD-850. There was a noticable improvement in image quality with the Samsung.

Bear in mind however that the only difference between what you have now and what you will have with the Samsung, is that at the moment your TV does the upscaling, where as the Samsung will upscale instead.

So basically its all down to which is better, your TVs upscaler or the Samsung DVD players.
