Hey guys,

I'm new to a mac (have one at office only) and am watching a dvd... how do I force the built in player to stay on top and resize it to make it smaller? Can't seem to do it..

(as a side not, how fast are macs :o)

First question - you can't make it stay on top of all other apps it seems. I've tried searching help and there's no mention of it.

Second question - to resize, position your mouse in the lower-right corner of the black DVD video window and your cursor will change to something like a set square. Then you can drag and resize. There is no normal OS X resize handle.

LOL. I was the 'wrong side' of the window trying to resize if you get me... That is, I was trying to resize a la windows from the border.

Re: always on top... AHHHH! Stupid macs....

VLC for the win, dude.

If you want to know about the Mac you're using, click the blue apple in the upper left corner of the screen and select "About this Mac"

Got an unrealted question...

I noticed when I was just 'installing' vlc... it mounts an image... what the hell is that about? I have one for messenger as well that I can 'eject'... eh!?

That's how most Mac programs "install." They come in as an image. You mount it and drag the application to your applications folder. That's it. No wizard, no boxes to click through.

When you've copied the app from the mounted disk image you can unmount it and delete the image if you like.

Uninstalling goes the same way. Open up the folder that holds the application and drag the app to the trash.

So I can 'eject' the half dozen images on my dekstop :D:D:D

I'm starting to like macs...... unistnalling a program by drag and drop? fantastic!

Lawl! I made the same mistake when I first dipped my ties into OS X. In fact my first post on the OcUK forums was to ask the distributed computing guys about why Folding@Home wanted to run from what I thought was a RAMdrive. :o

Live and learn, I suppose. :)

(I am ASHAMED to admit that it took me a good few minutes earlier to figure out how to open the cd drive..... i'm even more ashamed as I've done it before on macs I've used... must've forgotten..)

Hmmmm...... this install thing isn't intuitive.... really.

As I just thought I'd installed something - but all i'd done is opened it.... so then couldn't 'run' it from trash...

Argh....

And for those that asked it is a dUal 1.25Ghz Power PC G4 with 2mb L3 cache per cpu and 1Gb DDR DSRAM with Mac OS X version 10.4.8... is that okay? or poo?
