DVD Recorder Remote Control Conundrum

I have found in the attic a (really, really old) DVD recorder - a Panasonic DMR-E55 - which is still in good working order - the problem is that the remote control is not. The "select/enter" button no longer works which makes life difficult as you can imagine!

I only want to use the thing for a couple of recordings and don't really want to buy a new remote (besides, Mrs Clanger has spend all my disposible income on Christmas presents ;)). Does anyone know if you can reprogramme a Sky remote control to be able to use a DVD recorder in the same way you can with TVs? It wouldn't have to be that sophisticated - all I need is a "Select" button :)

Thanks in advance,

TC

I highly doubt that you'd get a Sky remote to work tbh. There's a fair few remotes for your DVD recorder on the popular auction site for ~£10 so why not?

If you've got the original remote, it may just need to be opened up carefully and have the contacts cleaned, as most use plastic/rubber membrane switches which get gunked up quite easily - isopropyl alcohol is idea for this:) (I have a big bottle in the garage and a little dropper bottle I use in the house for just this sort of thing).
