DVD Ripping (to avi file)

I have tried a lot of software, but must are just naff, whats the best software to rip dvd to avi?

anydvd (to make all dvd's copyable)
dvddecrypter in ifo mode, with the ifo filesize limit removed.
autogk to convert vob to avi.


many suggest handbrake, i'm assuming that does about the same as autogk...

DVDFab platinum. Just insert disk and click on what you want outputted, AVI, h.264, mp4, ipod, xbox, PS3 or just rip the full structure.

If you've got cash spare go for DVDFab Platinum, if you want to go free/cheap then go with bledds advice.

I use dvd-wmv, small resulting file but still good quality

You can tweak some file sizes and remove subs and other stuff if you want.

I use DVD Decrypter, LAME (azid to convert the AC3 audio into wav), VirtualDubMod and a XviD bitrate calculator here

Once you get the settings right in VirtualDubMod and LAME then I find it's the best

yeah tring it now, just doing the default settings and seeing what happens

You could just rip them to TS files then use something like Handbrake for much more 'in-depth' options (mkv's, cropping etc.)
