Dvd SATA or IDE

Hi, my friend gave me a Dvd writable/CD-RW drive to use in the new build I'm planning on making

I was wondering if anyone could help em identify what type it is SATA or IDE
Is there any information on the dvd player that tells you?

The connection on the back of the drive will tell you. IDE drives have two rows of 20 pins, sata connectors have a thin 'slot' connection with a notch at one side. IDE drives have a four pin molex type power connector although some sata drives also have these as well as the the sata power connector.

cool, looks like I have a IDE then, need to get a SATA, Thanks mate been trying to find out all morning

You can get an adapter for about £3 to get IDE drives working with a sata motherboard.

I just got one for an old hard drive, not sure if it'll be any good yet.
