I am just wondering what the best cable to use to connect my hdtv to my dvd player both have HDMI connections is this the best option or is it Component Video? Could anyone explain what the best options are?

Thanks

To be honest there isn't any real difference picture quality wise between HDMI and Component. Me personally I have my dvd player connected to my hdtv via Component.

Upscaling is usually limited to HDMI only so it depends if your TV or DVD scaler is better.

Try both, see which looks the best.

look for colour banding and pixalation in dark areas.
reason...
Some DVD players can default to RGB colourspace over HDMI.

1.Look for options in menu to change to YbYcYr/rgb over HDMI
2.Or try component

For instance my HD-A1 HD-DVD into my 42" Plasma defaults to rgb over HDMI so I use component. My Denon 1920 is fine over HDMI , but I have a Sony NS92v which is much much better over component.. even though it has optioins for colourspace... it simply performs better through component. I use all QED cables btw.

Was wondering about this on my Sony which is connected via HDMI, I have the option for either RGB or YbYcYr & have not been sure which to use

So if I read your post correctly, if connecting my DVD via HDMI I should choose YbYcYr?

Cheers..
