Hi,

I'm going away for easter and I want to put some dvds onto my iphone. Is there any simple programs/steps that will allow me to do this?

I have a mac + windows if this helps.

Thanks

That sounds too easy to be true? Is it really that simple? :)

How does the iPhone battery cope playing a ~90min DVD?

I think Apple says you can watch 5 hours of movies from a full charge. But it will be less than that in the real world.

I find its actually better than that in the real world.

Edit. At least as good anyway, thats including some web browsing here and there, and the odd call. I've found my iPhone battery to get better in the 3ish weeks I've had it.

I regularly take train journey's of around 3 hours and my battery tends to be over half charge most of the time (ipod touch) and i've been watching movies for most of it. Im not sure if this applies to the iphone but shut off wireless when your not using it to maximise your battery life

Out of curiosity what does a DVD compress down to size wise using that software say for a standard 4.7Gb DVD ?? Ive just got a 16Gb Ipod Touch for a present but havent opened it yet so I cant try it out (its for Friday).

They usually compress between 700-900MB depending on rip quality.

Obviously, if you choose 2-pass encoding or you bump the bitrate then the filesize increases accordingly.

Just about every DVD I try to convert it comes up with that it cannot scan the source and to insert a non-copy protected dvd, which just about all of them are I suppose :(

Are you using Handbrake?

Try ripping it with MacTheRipper first.

Im running the windows version, and have just read that the windows version cannot read direct from the DVD and you have to rip them first which makes it a bit pointless.

Easy, download handbrake , insert dvd's and select the iphone/ipod touch preset and wait a bit and your all done :D

That's what i do.

Set it to the iPhone preset, takes a about an hour to do a full length 2 hour DVD.

Great quality on the preset, was surprised how nice it looked!
