DVD to iPod/MP4?

What's the best possible way to do this? I remember in the old days having to convert to AVI then MP4 from a DVD and took ages. Wondering if it's any easier these days.

Reason I ask is a friend of mine needs some movies put onto his new Nano iPod's because he's going on holiday tommorrow and is giving them as gifts.

Videora does not appear to do DVD to Mp4? Unless I have the wrong version.
