dvd to nas drive

Hi all i have recentlly purchased a rasberry pi to run kodi from a nas drive.
Can someone reccoemend a good piece of software (free or paid) to copy from a disk to the nas drive.

makemkv

If you want to shrink that, handbrake on the file after.

Not really.

as above, makemkv to get the movie from the DVD as is. Will be between 4-6gb on average.

Run it through Handbrake on the high profile preset, size will come down to between 1-1.5gb.

If you are a perfectionist, you will spot small quality loss, but you will have to look hard.
It will also depend on the TV used to watch it.

ok thanks now im guessing i can do blurays but need the disk linked somehow for the protection?

but file sizes will be much bigger too

To do Blu-rays (might be stating the obvious) you will need to get a blu-ray player, I did all mine at the native size and this can vary between 20 - 40gb plus.

ok so using that software removes the need to use the disk as that was a security feature of a bluray you could rip/burn or whatever onto a hdd but needed the disk?

DVD: DVD Decrypter
Blu-ray: MakeMKV

You won't need the original media for playback.
