DVI Compatibility

Hi guys, this might sound like a bit of a dumb question but it's an issue I've not run into before. I've just bought an XFX 6870 graphics card, which comes with 2 DVI-I dual link connections. My monitor only has DVI-D and VGA. Do I need an adapter or will a standard DVI-D dual link cable be fine? Or is it easier to go from the HDMI out on the card to DVI-D on the monitor?

Your 6870 is unlikely to have 2 dual link DVI-I.

It probably has 1 dual link DVI-I and 1 single link DVI-D.

If you already have a DVI cable just plug it into whichever socket works.

If you want sound carried over the connection to the monitor then use HDMI (assumimg the monitor has HDMI). It's electrically compatible with DVI so you get the same picture quality.
