:( correct me if i am wrong there are two types of socket
both similar
but the flat connector (looks a little like the end of a flat screwdriver end, has 2 types 1 surrounded by 4 pins and the other no pins,
ive recieved an adapter off ocuk, to convert my xerox monitor dvi only to hdmi and of course the adapterhas no where 4 the 4 pins and the flat pin is smaller and on my monitor it has the pins and the flat pin is also too big for the adapter anyway
advice please
:(

Near the bottom of this page are diagrams of the different DVI connectors
http://www.datapro.net/techinfo/dvi_info.html

Ones with 4 pins around the flat pin are Analog or Digital/Analog (DVI-A , DVI-Single Link , DVI Dual link)
All of my LCD screens have the DVI-D Dual link connector (so no pins around the flat pin) (as it happens I'm apparently only using DVI-D single link cables)

If i'm understanding it correctly you have a DVI-D to HDMI adaptor and that is incompatable with your DVI-A monitor.
Havent seen anything with the 4pins around the flat pin for quite a while.
