Yo.
TLDR if you can't be asked to read below:
- Can DVI-I be converted to DVI-D Dual Link with any sort of cable, does it actually work?
- Is 10-bit colour going to make any difference to me, a user coming from a TN 24 inch Samsung monitor @ 1080p?
- Is the Dell U2713HM a good choice over the Hazro 27" on OCUK? I kind of want the option to plug other inputs than DVI-D (which I don't even technically have) in
- Would my HDMI > DVI-D cable work with one of these monitors with a single input and no scaler?
I was eyeing up the Hazro 27" display that is on the OCUK site here: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-019-HO&groupid=17&catid=1120.
I have managed to buy a GPU that only has DVI-I which is an absolute ho because it isn't meant to work with these monitors with DVI-D connections. Of course I have HDMI and 2 Mini-DP too. I was just expecting these higher end monitors to rely on the DP standard when they all seem to rely on DVI-D dual link which is... weird.
Here's another funny thing to think about. I'm currently using an HDMI > DVI-D Dual Link cable. As far as I know, HDMI 1.4b (What this GPU has - MSI R7950) supports up to 2560x1600 @ 60fps. That, in theory should do for a 2560x1440 monitor with no scaler. Now what I want to know is, is this monitor using anything internally to accept an HDMI > DVI-D signal, or is the cable doing it for me? This doesn't look like an active cable so I'm assuming the latter but I can't be sure, I'm not great with this stuff.
Any help is appreciated, thanks.
