DVI-D or DisplayPort to VGA?

Hello knowledgeable people,

I'm wanting to connect another display to my computer but because I have no money I can't buy a fancy new monitor that supports HDMI. I have a VGA monitor already hooked up and the ports I have left are: HDMI, Display Port, and DVI-D.

I have another VGA monitor lying about so I want to connect it...

Can I connect a VGA monitor to either the DisplayPort or the DVI-D socket using an adaptor?

Any help is appreciated

FYI, DVI and HDMI are the same thing, except HDMI can carry sound.

As for your setup, DVI-D is digital only so you will need a Displayport to VGA adapter.

Thanks a lot, will I need an active or passive adaptor? or does it not matter?
