so i have just set up half of my 5.1 setup, i have wired in 2.1 so far as i havent got the stands for the rears yet nor the cablage

my problem is this

i run
1X u2410 via DVI
1X U2711 via DVI
1X AV receiver for audio via HDMI 1.4a

this doesnt work as ive found out its hardware limitation.

is displayport a way around this?

don't know about the av reciever but for 3 monitors you need to connect 1 via display port(or displayport to dvi or vga adapter). the u2711 should come with a displayport cable so just connect it using that and see if that helps.

The problem is you can't use 2 x DVI's and HDMI at the same time.

Does your HD 6950 have a full size DisplayPort connector or a miniDP to full size DP adapter?

If so just connect the U2711 with the DP cable which I assume came in the box (my U3011 had one).

That way you should be able to use the HDMI connector.

it has mini display port so I need an adapter as yes the Dell's both have dp cables

so what you guys are saying is..you can have hdmi, dvi, dp.... But not dvi, dvi, hdmi?

Yep.

That's how they're "designed".

The only HD 6950 that let's you use DVI, DVI + HDMI is the Sapphire FLEX.

You'll need a miniDP to DP adapter, or a minDP to DP cable.

ok thanks, unusual design, must be a reason, adapter or cable it is.

I expected it to work as I have crossover but alas it did not
