dvi/hdmi/dp etc

Depends what resolution, refresh and monitor you have as well as what feature set you want.

Generally speaking as a pc gamer, dp is rapidly making hdmi and dvi obsolete.

They all offer different bandwidth. DVI is obsolete, HDMI offers less than DP but is much more common on TVs. You could almost say that DP is for high-end monitors (4K) and HDMI is for TVs.

While at most resolutions the connection won't make much of a difference (with the possible exception of using an excessively long or cheap VGA cable), I feel DP is the way forwards. It's royalty free, has a locking connector, can be easily converted into DVI/VGA/HDMI, it's also currently the only standard to support adaptive refresh rates be it via GSync or FreeSync. I can't really see much point these days in using a different connection unless you don't have a choice (TVs usually have HDMI & VGA).

For me DVI beats DP beats HDMI - unless you're wanting to run super high res.

Reason: DVI works well on both vendors. DP has occasional issues @ 1080p and some other problems, HDMI frequent issues @ 1080p with both vendors.

HDMI also is not free & can easily be knocked out, both of the other two are better in this regard.

DP is where I see it going, with adaptive refresh and higher res support.

Just recently started using display port to connect my monitor to my laptop. I have say the DP lead and connector is very fat and bulky but does the job that HDMI can't.
