have just put together a spare box mostly from leftover bits and a couple additions. im thinking of using it a play about with linux box, the thing is though its not getting its own monitor. since my laptop only has HDMI out it ges into the monitor via its DVI socket.

id like to connect the new box to the same monitor at the same time but it only has vga and a Display port connector free. the computers card has vga too but id much rather not have to use it. (vga always looks fuzzy to me)

so is there a way to convert either the DVI or HDMI out into a Display port input for the monitor? all the converters i see seem to be only the other way arround. do i just have to use vga?

sorry, the DVI socket on the monitor is already in use as its what i connect my laptop to.

thats why i want to connect the new box to the display port on the monitor.

What about using a HDMI switcher? You could plug in the laptop and the linux box into the switcher and then use the output of that to plug into the DVI on the monitor.

So you want to connect the DVI or HDMI outut from your GPU to the displayport input on the monitor? I'm sure you can get DVI to displayport cables which should do the job. You might find adaptors as well that can do the job but its not something I've ever had to use.
