Hi Guys

Is there any advantage connecting my LCD TV/Monitor to my PC via HDMI or is DVI just as good?

Monitor: Samsung T260HD 26"
Card: Asus 4850

Thanking you

Unless your graphics card puts out sound via HDMI as well as video there is no point. DVI and HDMI are same apart from HDMI can carry sound.

Didn't know this, was thinking about upgrading due to my 8800GTX not having a HDMI out, thanks for the info :)

Not sure about the 4870, but I have the 4850 which has an ATI HDMI Audio driver installed. Although I'm making an assumption, I assume that it means it does sound and I would also assume the 4870 would be the same

Is it really even worth it getting sound from the gfx card? I've always assumed that even the onboard sound cards from the motherboard would still perform better.

^^ isn't the point that it does direct sound pass through so you can plug the HDMI into your amp and that will decode the sound?

I might be thinking of something else entirely tho :s

Very little difference between the two. Use one or the other or get a converter if you cant choose, you wont notice any difference.

For MOST consumer level applications, essentially the HDMI video standard is almost identical to DVI. However, HDMI connections support content encryption and this may be required by the movie studios in the future to view HD movies.

As other posters have mentioned HDMI can also carry audio signals, but the main advantage of this is lossless standards like Dolby True-HD, I haven't seen any graphics cards that do pass-through of this standard, thus HDMI-Audio on the PC is only as good as SPDIF output.
