DVI port on Motherboard most certainly a fail.

Background story so far, a bunch of months ago my monitor simply went blank, restarted comp a few times to see if it would come up again, I think one time it worked but suddenly dropped out about 10 seconds or so in.

Anyway It worked fine up to that point from when i used it back exactly a year ago (yay 1 year anniversary), but i did not remember to check the other ports, so i just got a spare monitor and used it instead (DVI lead with VGA converter at computer end, straight into the GFX card).

Now to my dismay my monitor is certainly not broken and is displaying perfectly, so i wondered, I tested the other monitor in the same DVI slot on the MB and no surprise here, does not work...

Now I really dont mind, VGA is fine for 1600x900, but it is still annoying.

Technical information.

Motherboard: MSI Z68A-GD55-G3 Intel Z68
GFX (might aswell): MSI GeForce GTX 560Ti OC 1024MB
Monitor: Samsung Syncmaster 2253BW

Now also the monitor is a tad older than the system, but it runs fine enough.

Any guesses?

Edit: also about the blankness, usually the monitor should just say no signal (cycling between whether a signal is analogue or Digital, then flashing a warning on screen), but it does the cycle, then nothing, like there is a signal, but it cant understand it i suppose?

Was you using the same graphics card a year ago?

What CPU you got? if it's something like a 2500K, try using the onboard Intel HD3000 DVI socket to the Samsung Syncmaster 2253BW, see if it works from that.

Also, is the motherboard BIOS up to date?

Same graphics card i bought, the monitor and HDD are the only old things.

Yep 2500K, what do you mean by the second part is it on the motherboard itself (not the back)?

No I very much doubt the MB BIOS is upto date, I have never once done a BIOS update (laziness, though I will have to for my SSD eventually), just seems like more hassle than just installing a driver.

Do you have another DVI cable you can try?

Yeah their should be a DVI port on the motherboard backplate? That is for the graphics on the CPU itself, run it off that, it's probally sounding like hassle for you, but if it doesn't boot, you would need to remove the nvidia drivers and the graphics card. I'm just seeing if the DVI will run straight off the onboard graphics.
