Bit of noob question

I woul like to connect my PC (8800GT GPU) to an HDTV.

The GPU has a DVI output and the TV has HDMI input along with a VGA input (in addition to all the scart stuff.)

Does DVI transmit audio? Is there a way I can hook this up so as not to need to make a separate audio connection?

DVI doesn't transmit Audio.
HDMI does however.

I'm not entirely sure if the 8800GT will support Audio over HDMI, but my 4870's do it.

Thanks for the advice so far guys.

The card doesn't have SPDIF but the mobo does, along with optical fibre.

The TV has connections for VGA (labeled RGB/DVI) but is clearly a VGA socket. Next to it and part of the same input option as far as selecting inputs on the TV is concerned is a 3.5mm jack input.

I figure i'll have to run a DVI-VGA cable from the GPU to the TV and a separate audio connection.

So next question is this...

Does the DVI-VGA support 1080p? and if not what does it support?

DVI-D and HDMI supports resolutions in excess of 1080p, some analogue VGA ones do too actually - but it isn't guaranteed so you'll have to look in the manual for the TV/Monitor!
